Chiapas is an off-the-beaten-path land of extreme biodiversity and indigenous culture. Our expert guide, Roberto Murphy, was born in Mexico and spent much of his upbringing in Chiapas. From an early age, he became interested in studying the ancient Maya and has been guiding in the Maya area since 1985. (At this time, many sites could only be reached by plane, foot or mule.) During this talk, he will bring abandoned ruins to life and share interesting facts and personal anecdotes on everything from daily life in Chiapas to shamans and rituals in the region.
